The Local Heritage Series


In the midst of all the varying amounts of racism and lack of understanding in communities around the US, I had wanted to create an opportunity for local communities to share their heritage and culture in hopes to inform others. I was personally affected by the racial tension and I remember thinking "if they only took the time to understand", and what better way to help bridge that understanding than visual and written connection.

The Objective


1) Create an e-magazine full of beautiful imagery and informative expression on the individual cultures and communities here in KC, and how they've been affected by racism.

2) Provide awareness and sell digital copies of the e-magazine in support of local charities of the models choosing.

3) Optional/Potential objective, if opting in for recorded interviews, create a Documentary style video for YouTube

What You'll Get


1) a minimum of an hour of studio and/or an hour of on-location photography (these can be scheduled different days)

2) A full online and mobile gallery of your downloadable images with sharing guidelines

3) A feature in my e-magazine of the final product (this is going to be personally/collectively produced and shared via the web)

4) features on my website and social media

5) A chance to promote the final product with proceeds that will go towards a charity of your choosing

What It'll Cost You

Nothing!

Seriously, I genuinely just want to create with you. So it will really only cost you your Time and Dedication to the expression of your story and your heritage. If you do decide to be apart of the behind the scenes interview and capture process, then it will cost you some vulnerability and your words as well


Your Steps


1) Choose a story and traditional wear/aspect of your culture/heritage that you have and are comfortable sharing

2) Review the prompts and start thinking about what stories you'd like to share, if you are not comfortable that is okay too!

3) Determine the appropriate attire to showcase your culture and represent your community and story. Prepare the necessary look or accessories to assist in achieving that look.

4) Come ready to represent your culture and share in information to help bridge the gap of understanding.

5) Prepare and practice a script if necessary to make sure your voice is heard.

The Details

There is so much expression and understanding that can be communicated simply in the details of the traditional garments and traditions. We will spend time to honor these details and showcase the handiwork and practices in their most natural form.

The Portait


A traditional, timeless capture to showcase your culture/heritage. The focus here will be less about facial expressions (unless they play a role in what you are sharing) and more so on your traditional wear and your traditions you wish to share.

Your Mood Board


Here are a few examples of what I'm looking to create. Poised and elegant representation of your culture/heritage in the traditional wear of your choosing. There may be times when dance is included in which you'll find action photos to accompany the series. If you are wanting to make a statement with your story, please let me know ahead of time and we can iron out the details to make sure we achieve that goal with ease.
